Import lab results

Bring soil and tissue results straight in from your lab's PDF report or CSV file, instead of typing every figure by hand

On this page

The Import tab on the Lab Testing page reads your lab's report file and adds every sample and its results in one go.

Save time

A soil report for every green can run to hundreds of figures. Importing the lab's PDF or CSV adds the lot in a minute or two, with no typing and no transcription mistakes.

Importing lab results is part of Premium. You'll also need permission to import lab results.

Which files can I import?

  • PDF reports from Lancrop/SGS (Origin) and NRM. TurfWise recognises the lab's layout by itself, and picks up the lab reference and received date where the report shows them. Scanned PDFs can still be read, but take longer.
  • CSV files (.csv or .txt) laid out in one of the built-in formats: NRM Soil Analysis, NRM Tissue Analysis, Lancrop/SGS Soil or Lancrop/SGS Tissue.

Files can be up to 25MB. Each sample in the file needs its own sample reference.

How do I import results?

Go to Course › Inputs › Lab Testing and open the Import tab.

1

Choose the test type

Pick Soil or Tissue under Test type.

2

Choose the template

For a CSV, pick the Template that matches your lab and test, such as NRM Soil Analysis. For a PDF, the template doesn't matter, because TurfWise works out the layout itself.

3

Choose the file

Under CSV or PDF file, click Choose file… and pick the lab's file.

4

Import

Click Import results. You'll see Uploading…, then Processing lab results…. When it's done, the results card shows how many samples were Imported and how many Failed, with any Errors and Warnings listed.

Your new samples then appear on the Samples tab and feed into Trends.

Check the dates

Imported samples are dated the day you import them, not the day they were taken. Import results soon after they arrive, so your trends stay in the right order.

What do the errors mean?

"Duplicate: … already exists"

A sample with that reference is already in TurfWise, so it's skipped rather than added twice. Everything else in the file still imports.

"Missing sample reference"

Every sample needs a reference. Check the file has the sample ID column filled in.

"File must be a CSV (.csv, .txt) or PDF (.pdf) file"

Ask your lab for a PDF or CSV export. Spreadsheets saved as Excel files need saving as CSV first.

What's on the Mappings tab?

The Mappings tab lists any saved column mappings for your club, and lets you delete one you no longer need. The built-in NRM and Lancrop templates are always available.
