How the daily briefing works, what each section shows, and how to use it for your morning routine

7 min read·Updated February 2026·🚀 Getting Started

The Today page is usually the first screen you see when you log in. It pulls together weather, disease risk, staffing, tasks, and alerts into one view so you can decide what needs attention before you head out onto the course.

Today page overview

This article refers to a live TurfWise screen. Media is omitted here so the written steps stay current across releases.

The Today page -- your morning briefing in one screen

What this page does

The Today page gives you a morning briefing. It shows the current conditions, predicts disease risk for the next seven days, flags staffing issues, lists today's planned work, and surfaces any active alerts. Everything is laid out top-to-bottom in priority order.

You don't enter data here. This page reads from other parts of TurfWise (weather, planning, staff, disease models) and shows you what matters right now.

When you would use this

  • Every morning before your team briefing
  • After lunch when conditions may have changed
  • When you come back from being offline and need a quick catch-up
  • When a colleague asks "what's the plan today?" and you need a summary

What each section shows

The page is laid out top-to-bottom so the most important decisions come first:

What Matters Today

A bulleted list of the day's key priorities in plain English. This is generated from conditions, disease risk, tasks, and alerts combined. If you only have 10 seconds, read this. There's also a Daily Pulse link that takes you to a deeper breakdown.

Conditions Brief

Current weather and operational conditions. Temperature, wind, rainfall, humidity, and anything that affects what you can do today. This section also includes decision support tips based on current conditions.

7-Day Disease Forecast

A visual chart showing disease risk for the coming week. Each day shows a risk level so you can spot trends early. The first 48 hours get a headline summary.

Where does disease risk come from?

Disease risk is calculated by TurfWise's prediction engine using your local weather data, grass type, and course conditions. See Disease Prediction for the full details.

Operational Attention

Staffing items that may affect delivery today. This shows absence counts and links you directly to the attendance page if you need details.

Today's Plan

The tasks scheduled for today, including any AI-generated pattern suggestions based on the day of the week. If work hasn't been assigned yet, this section makes that obvious.

Alerts

Active alerts in a compact list. Click any alert to see full details. If there are many alerts, the preview shows the most recent ones.

Capture Stream

Shows your three most recent captures (observations, issues, flags, notes) and a button to add a new one. Tapping the button opens the Capture page where you can log a new entry with a type, description, and optional location. You'll find all your captures at Work > Capture.

How to use this page (step by step)

Start with What Matters Today

Read the top summary. This is your 10-second briefing. It tells you the most important things about today in plain language.

Check Conditions Brief and Disease Forecast

Before any weather-sensitive decisions (mowing, spraying, irrigation), review the current conditions and the 7-day disease trend. If risk is climbing, you may need to adjust the plan.

Review Operational Attention

Check for absences or staffing gaps. If someone is off and work hasn't been reassigned, you'll want to know now -- not at 9am when the crew is waiting.

Confirm Today's Plan

Review the task list. Make sure every critical task has an owner. If work is unassigned, open the Work Board to assign it.

Triage alerts and log anything unusual

Glance through the alerts. Dismiss resolved items and use the Capture Stream to log anything you've noticed that doesn't have a task yet.

How to run a morning briefing with this page

If you brief your team each morning, the Today page gives you a repeatable structure:

  1. Share the What Matters Today summary with the team.
  2. Talk through any weather-driven plan changes from Conditions Brief.
  3. Confirm staffing from Operational Attention -- who's here, who's not.
  4. Walk through Today's Plan and confirm who owns each critical task.
  5. Ask the team for anything they've noticed and log it with Capture Stream.

This turns a vague morning chat into a five-minute structured briefing.

Come back after lunch

Conditions change during the day. After lunch, revisit the Today page and check whether anything has shifted -- especially weather and disease risk. Don't treat the morning data as final for the whole day.

How the page refreshes

The Today page caches data for 5 minutes. It refreshes automatically when you:

  • Switch back to the browser tab
  • Reconnect after being offline
  • Wait beyond the 5-minute stale period

You don't need to manually refresh the page. If you want the absolute latest data, just switch away from the tab and come back.

Common problems and fixes

The page shows "Failed to Load Dashboard"

This usually means TurfWise can't reach the server. Check your internet connection and click Retry. If it keeps happening, try clearing your browser cache or logging out and back in.

Disease risk looks wrong

Disease risk depends on your course location being set correctly. If the weather data doesn't match your area, go to Settings and check that your GPS coordinates are accurate. See Setting Up Your Course.

Today's Plan is empty

Tasks only appear here if they've been scheduled for today in Work Planning. If you're not using the planner yet, this section will stay empty. Go to Work > Planning to start scheduling.

Alerts aren't showing

If there are no alerts, the alert section shows a zero count. That's normal -- it means nothing needs your attention right now.

Customising the background

You can upload a photo of your course as the Today page background image. Look for the Add your course photo button in the top-right corner (visible to admins, managers, superintendents, and head greenkeepers).

After uploading, click the hand icon to enter drag mode and reposition the image so the best part of your course is visible at the top. Click Done when you're happy.

To remove a custom photo, click the bin icon next to the image controls.

Accepted image formats

JPEG, PNG, and WebP images are supported. The image sits behind the briefing sections and fades out as you scroll down.

Good habits that prevent issues later

  • Check the Today page every morning -- it takes 60 seconds and prevents surprises.
  • Don't treat early-morning data as final all day -- conditions change, absences get logged mid-morning, and weather shifts.
  • Log observations immediately using Capture Stream while they're fresh. Waiting until the end of the day usually means details get forgotten.
  • Review after weather changes -- if the forecast shifts significantly, come back and recheck before committing to the afternoon plan.

Where this fits in TurfWise

The Today page reads from nearly every other part of TurfWise:

  • Weather data comes from your configured weather source in Settings
  • Disease risk comes from the prediction engine (see Disease Prediction)
  • Tasks come from Work Planning
  • Alerts come from across the system (machinery, compliance, weather)
  • Staffing data comes from Staff records and absence tracking

If any of these data sources are empty or misconfigured, the relevant section on the Today page will be blank or inaccurate. Keep your data current and the Today page works brilliantly.
