How the sidebar, command palette, and mobile navigation work, and how to find anything quickly

5 min read·Updated February 2026·🚀 Getting Started

TurfWise keeps navigation simple. The sidebar has seven sections for daily operations, plus an admin area for managers. There are no nested menus or hidden subfolders -- everything is one or two clicks away.

The sidebar shows seven sections, each with an icon and label

What this page does

This article explains how to move around TurfWise, how to find pages quickly, and how to tell where you are at any time. Read this if you keep losing track of where things live.

When you would use this

  • You're new and not sure where a feature lives
  • You know the feature name but can't find the page
  • You want to learn the keyboard shortcut for fast navigation
  • You're on mobile and the layout looks different from desktop

The seven sidebar sections

Today

Your daily command centre. Overview of weather, disease risk, tasks, and alerts.

Work

Work Board, Planning, Staff, and Templates (templates only visible to managers and above).

Course

Conditions Dashboard (turf intelligence), Disease and Stress tracking, Course Closure, and Hole Maps.

Weather + Spraying

Weather Dashboard, Rainfall and Wetness, Spraying, and Applications History.

Machinery

Fleet Overview, Overdue Service, Faults / Issues, and Service Timeline.

Reports

Weekly Report, Monthly Report, Committee Pack, and Export Centre.

Settings

Settings Home -- from here you can reach General profile, Notifications, Course Settings, Weather, Task Templates, Machinery, Shift Patterns, and more. Some settings pages are only visible to managers or admins.

Admin area (managers and admins only)

If your role is Head Greenkeeper, Course Manager, or Admin, you'll also see:

  • People -- Staff List, Absence, Skills Matrix, Training Compliance
  • Finance -- Budget Overview, Invoices, Supplier Spend, Forecasts
  • Health & Safety -- H&S Dashboard, Incidents, Inspections, Risk Assessments, COSHH
  • Projects -- Projects Overview (with Gantt charts and bill of quantities)

Can't see a section?

Your sidebar only shows sections your role has access to. If you're expecting to see Finance or Health & Safety but they're missing, ask your administrator to check your role.

How to find things quickly

Command palette (fastest method)

Press Ctrl + K (or Cmd + K on Mac) to open the command palette. Start typing the name of any page or feature and results appear instantly.

Command palette

This article refers to a live TurfWise screen. Media is omitted here so the written steps stay current across releases.

Press Ctrl+K to open the command palette -- search pages, features, and actions

The command palette searches across page names, descriptions, and keywords. For example, typing "spray" shows both the Spraying page and the Applications History page.

Try it now

Open the command palette and type "disease". You'll see the Disease and Stress page appear under the Course section.

How do I know where I am?

TurfWise highlights your current location in two ways. The section header gets an emerald background when you're inside it, and the active page gets a green left bar. So if you're on the Disease & Stress page, you'll see the Course section lit up and the Disease & Stress item marked.

You'll also see breadcrumbs at the top of most pages. These show where you are, for example: Dashboard > Machinery > John Deere 2500B. You can click any part of the breadcrumb to jump back.

Groupings that catch people out

  • Weather and Spraying has its own section -- it is not under Course
  • Machinery has its own section -- it is not grouped with Course
  • Reports has its own section -- it is not in an admin area
  • Finance, Health & Safety, and Projects are in the admin area -- you need a manager or admin role to see them

How to use this page (step by step)

Start by picking the right section

Glance at the sidebar section labels and click the one closest to what you need. If you're looking for spray records, go to Weather + Spraying. If you're looking for task planning, go to Work.

If you can't find it, use the command palette

Press Ctrl + K and type what you're looking for. This is almost always faster than clicking through sections.

Check the green accent and breadcrumbs

Before making changes, confirm you're on the right page by checking the sidebar highlight and the breadcrumb trail at the top.

On mobile

Mobile navigation menu

This article refers to a live TurfWise screen. Media is omitted here so the written steps stay current across releases.

Tap the menu icon to open the full sidebar navigation

On phones and tablets, the sidebar is replaced by a menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner. Tap it and you'll see the same sections as on desktop in a full-screen overlay.

The mobile layout uses larger tap targets and simplified views for the features you'll use most in the field.

Common problems and fixes

I can't find a page I used yesterday

Use the command palette (Ctrl + K). It's the fastest way to get back to any page.

The sidebar doesn't show all the sections

Your role controls what you can see. If you need access to sections that are hidden, ask your administrator to review your role in Settings.

I'm on the wrong page and I've made changes

Some pages (such as budget planner, staff editing, and shift patterns) will warn you if you try to leave with unsaved changes. On other pages, use the breadcrumbs or the back link at the top to navigate away.

Good habits that prevent confusion

  • Learn the command palette shortcut (Ctrl + K). Most experienced users navigate entirely through it.
  • Check the sidebar highlight before making changes. If the wrong section is highlighted, you're on the wrong page.
  • Use breadcrumbs to trace your path. This is especially useful in deep pages like individual staff profiles or machinery service records.

Where this fits in TurfWise

Navigation is global -- it works the same way on every page. Learning it once means you can find anything in the system without help.

Where to find it

Navigation tools are available globally in the sidebar and via the command palette (Ctrl + K).
