Creating a Project
Start a project in seconds with a name, owner and target date, or walk through the full set-up including budget, delivery method and bunker planning
On this page
Creating a project gives a piece of non-routine work its own home in TurfWise, where you can plan the tasks, track the money and keep the paperwork together.
Premium
Projects is part of the Premium plan. You'll need a manager or admin login to create a project — staff can open and view projects but can't create them.
What's the quickest way to start a project?
Click Records in the top bar, then Projects, and click New project. The Start a project screen asks for just three things:
- Project name — for example "7th green bunker repair"
- Owner — the person responsible
- Target date — when it should be finished
Click Create project and you land straight on the project's task list, ready to add work. A project code is generated for you, and you can add the budget later.
Small jobs don't need the full form
For a simple repair or a one-off job, the quick start is all you need. Save the full set-up for bigger schemes with a budget, contractors or bunker work.
How do I add the full details?
Click Add more details on the quick-start screen. A six-step form opens, and the numbered steps along the top show where you are. Click any earlier step to jump back to it, or use Back and Next.
Basics
Name, Project Code (leave it blank and TurfWise assigns the next code for you), Description, Category, Priority, Risk Level and Owner. Categories include Renovation, Seasonal Program, Tournament Prep, Disease Management, Construction and more.
Budget
Choose Budget known and enter the Total Budget and any Contingency, or choose Not known yet. A budget that isn't known yet is saved as unconfirmed rather than as a real figure — the Projects list shows it as £0 until you add the amount.
Type & planning
Optionally Link to Course Area, then answer What type of project is this? — Bunker renovation, Greens rebuild, Drainage & irrigation, Full course renovation or Other.
Delivery
Pick In-house staff, External contractor or Mixed. For contractor work, enter the primary contractor or click Add Details to save their full details.
Timeline
Set the Start Date and Target End Date. The end date can be the same day as the start.
Details
Add a Location, tick Weather Dependent or Critical Path if they apply, and add any notes.
When you're done, click Create Project. Not ready yet? Save draft creates the project straight away with whatever you've filled in so far, and you can finish the details later. Either way, a new project starts life as a Draft.
What's different for bunker renovations?
Choose Bunker renovation as the project type and TurfWise asks one more question: How will this bunker work be planned and priced? Your answer decides where you go after creating the project.
- Use TurfWise bunker calculator (in-house team) — opens the Bunker BOQ Builder, where you pick bunkers and TurfWise works out materials, labour and tasks.
- Upload contractor BOQ / tender — opens the contractor import, where you upload the contractor's priced bill.
- A mix of both — opens the project's bill of quantities so you can use both tools.
- Not sure yet — just creates the project. You can choose later.
Link the course area first
If you link the project to a course area in the Type & planning step, the bunker builder can load your mapped bunkers and their measured areas straight away. If you skip it, the builder asks you to pick a course area before it can load them — or you can enter bunker sizes by hand.
See Bills of quantities for what happens next.
What if I lose my place?
TurfWise holds on to an unfinished project in your browser tab. If you navigate away and come back to New project in the same tab, you'll be asked Resume unsaved project? — click Resume to carry on, or Discard to start again. Closing the tab or browser clears it, so use Save draft if you need to stop for longer.
If something is missing when you try to create the project, the form jumps to the first field that needs fixing and tells you what's wrong.
Can I change the details later?
Yes. Open the project, click Settings in its header, then Edit project details. You can change the name, category, priority, budget, dates, location and notes, and mark the budget as known or not known.
