Import your irrigation network
Bring your stations, decoders, sprinkler heads and field repairs in from a CSV or Excel export, matching your columns to TurfWise's fields
On this page
Import records brings your whole irrigation network into TurfWise from a spreadsheet, so you don't have to add every station and head by hand.
Save time
A course can have hundreds of stations and well over a thousand heads. Exporting them from your central control software, or a spreadsheet you already keep, and importing them takes minutes rather than days.
Import records is part of Premium. You need permission to edit irrigation records.
What can I import?
You import one kind of record at a time:
- Stations — stations and valves with their decoder address (for example 01-014). Decoder details such as type, manufacturer, model and location are stored on the station, so this is where decoders come in. Start here.
- Sprinklers — heads attached to stations. Import these after your stations, because each head is matched to a station by its number.
- Field Repairs — mainline bursts, cable joins, junctions and the like, optionally linked to a station or course area.
The file can be CSV, XLSX or XLS. Only the first 500 rows of a file are imported, so split a bigger file into several.
How do I import a file?
Click Irrigation in the top bar, then Setup, then Import records (the last step of the Setup checklist). The import works in four steps: Choose file, Map columns, Preview and Result.
Choose what you're importing
Under What are you importing?, pick Stations, Sprinklers or Field Repairs. Starting from scratch? Click Download template for a ready-made spreadsheet with the right columns.
Choose your file
If you've imported this kind of file before, pick it from Reuse a saved mapping to skip the next step. Then click to choose your file and click Read file.
Match your columns
For each TurfWise field, pick which column in your file holds it. You'll see sample data alongside so you can tell you've got it right. Fields marked Required, such as Station number and Decoder address, must be matched before you can go on. Anything you don't need can be left as Skip / not mapped.
Preview
Click Preview to see the first rows as they'll be imported. To reuse these choices next time, give them a name under Save this mapping for reuse. Then click Import … rows.
Check the result
You'll see how many records were Created, Updated and Failed, plus a list of any rows with problems, by row and field.
Exports from Rain Bird, Toro and Hunter
TurfWise tries to recognise exports from Rain Bird CC, Toro Lynx and Hunter IMMS, as well as its own template. If it does, it tells you which layout it found and fills in the column matching for you. These layouts are still in beta, so check every row before you go on.
Run reports from your controller
Importing last night's runs from a controller export isn't built yet. Until then, log runs with Log a run on Tonight.
Can I import the same file again?
Yes. Records are matched on their station number, head number or repair code, so importing again updates what's already there rather than making duplicates. That makes it easy to fix a mistake in the spreadsheet and re-import.
What's mainline auto-snap?
If your stations have map positions, TurfWise tries to link each one to the nearest point on your mainline network after import. Stations within 12m are linked automatically, those 12 to 20m away are flagged for you to check, and anything further is left unlinked. Open System › As-built › Stations & heads to verify or link each one. See Stations, pumps and the course map.
