Irrigation maintenance and repairs

Log decoder and wire faults, record field repairs, track hose-point pressure tests, and keep winterisation and commissioning checklists

On this page

Upkeep in Irrigation is where you keep the history of what's gone wrong with the system and what you've done about it — faults, repairs, pressure tests and seasonal work.

Premium

Irrigation maintenance is part of Premium. On Core these pages won't load their data. See Core and Premium plans.

Where do I find it?

Click Irrigation in the top bar, then Upkeep. It opens on All upkeep: your open field repairs, oldest first, with Make a job on any that aren't on the Planner yet, plus seasonal work and the checks never done.

The Upkeep group (and the filter along the top of the page) takes you to:

  • Repairs — pipe bursts, cable breaks and other repairs out on the course.
  • Pressure tests — hose-point pressure readings, valve box by valve box.
  • Seasonal work — winterising, start-up and mid-season checklists, and sprinkler replacements.
  • Faults — decoder and wire-path faults.

A Log something card on the page starts any of these: a repair, a pressure test, a seasonal checklist, a head replacement, a decoder fault or a wire-path fault. Bringing in an old repair sheet is under Setup › Import records — see Import your irrigation network.

How do I log a field repair?

The quickest way is Log something › Repair on the Upkeep page.

1

Click Log Repair

The Log Field Repair window opens.

2

Say what it is

Choose the Repair type — Cable join, Cable junction, Cable break, Mainline pipe, Lateral pipe or Other — and the Status. Give it a short Title, such as "Burst at 4th fairway".

3

Add the details

Add a description, a repair code, the station and course area it affects, when it was identified and repaired, and who did it. Set the Location so it appears on the map.

4

Click Log Repair

The repair appears in the list, and on the map's Repairs layer if it has a location.

Use the status buttons — All, Identified, In progress and Completed — and the search box to find a repair. Click a repair to edit it and move it along as the work progresses.

Burst on the course right now?

On System › As-built › Map, click the pipe and choose Burst here — what do I shut off? TurfWise traces the water back towards the pump to show what needs closing. The pump must be placed on the map for this to work.

How do I log an electrical fault?

Open Upkeep › Faults. It has two lists — Decoder Faults and Wire Path Faults — each with its own Log Fault button.

Wire path faults can be a Short, Open Circuit, High Resistance, Intermittent or Comms Lost. Give each fault a severity — Critical, Warning or Info — so the serious ones stand out.

Filter by status and severity at the top. The Decoder Fault Trend chart shows how many decoder faults you've logged each month over the last year.

A logbook, not a live monitor

TurfWise doesn't read your controller, so faults only appear here when someone logs them.

How do pressure tests work?

Open Upkeep › Pressure tests. Each card is a valve box with a hose point, grouped by surface. The tiles at the top show the Total, how many were Tested 30d, how many are Overdue and how many are Flagged.

Each card carries a badge:

  • OK — tested recently, and pressure is holding.
  • OVERDUE — never tested, or not tested for more than 90 days.
  • PRESSURE DROP — the latest dynamic reading is more than 20% below the typical of its previous tests. It needs at least three earlier tests to judge.

Recording a test

Tap a card to open it. Under Record reading, enter the Static (bar) and Dynamic (bar) pressures, check Tested at, add any notes, and tap Record reading. The card's Trend chart and History update straight away.

Tag your valve boxes

Click Print QR tags to print a sheet of labels for your valve boxes. Stick one inside each lid — scanning it with a phone opens that valve's record.

Valve boxes also show on the map's Valve boxes layer, coloured by their test status.

If the page says there are no valve boxes flagged for testing, none have been set up yet. Hose-point valve boxes are added from the TurfWise mobile app.

How do I keep seasonal checklists?

Open Upkeep › Seasonal work.

Seasonal Checklists

Click New Checklist, choose the type — Winterisation, Spring commissioning or Mid-season audit — and give it a name, for example "2026 Winterisation — front nine". Use Add item to build your list of jobs as you create it, then tick them off as you go — the card shows how many are done.

You write the items

Checklists start empty, so you can match them to your own system and routine.

Sprinkler Replacements

Click Log Replacement whenever you swap a head, and choose why it failed — Wear, Vandalism, Blockage, Upgrade or Other. Over time this builds a picture of where heads are failing and why.
