Greens Speed
Log stimpmeter readings for each green, see how often you hit your target speed, and follow pace over time
Greens Speed keeps your stimpmeter readings, so you can see how fast the greens are running and how often they're on target.
Open Course › Turf & growth › Greens Speed. It's included on Core.
How do I log a reading?
Click Log
Click Log at the top of the page to open Log greens reading.
Choose the green
Pick the green from the list, and check the date and time.
Enter three readings and your target
Enter Reading 1, Reading 2 and Reading 3 in feet, and your Target speed (ft). Each must be between 5 and 20 ft.
Save
Add any notes and save. TurfWise averages the three readings for you.
A reading is On target when its average is within half a foot of the target. Otherwise it's Off target.
On the phone, Take a reading also has Measure with the camera. Roll the balls as usual, point the phone at the green, tap the end of the stimpmeter, then tap where each ball stopped. Do three balls one way, tap Turn round, then three back, and the phone works out the stimp. It's good to about 0.2 ft on a flat green in daylight, which is right for week-to-week readings. Use a tape for a tournament figure. It needs a recent iPhone.
Measure the same way each time
Stimp the same greens, at the same time of morning, before rolling. That keeps one week comparable with the next, and lets Treatment vs Response judge growth regulators and top dressing.
What do the figures mean?
Choose a period — 7d, 30d, 90d, 1 yr or All — and four figures sit across the top:
- Average pace — the average speed across all readings, with your target.
- On target — the share of readings within the target band.
- Greens measured — how many greens have readings, and how many readings in all.
- Range — the slowest to the fastest reading.
What are the chart and lists?
The pace chart
The average speed by day, with a dashed line at your target. Hover over a day to see its average, target and number of readings.
A card for each green
A card for each green with its average and the share of its readings on target. Green is 80% or more, amber 50% or more, and red below that.
Recent readings
Every reading with its date, green, average, target and status.
Save time
Export downloads the readings as a CSV — handy for a committee report or a competition record.
