Task PPE

Decide once what PPE each kind of work needs, link its safety documents, and let the crew see it on every job

On this page

PPE is where you decide once what protective equipment each kind of work needs — mowing, strimming, spraying — so every job of that kind shows the same PPE to the crew.

Premium

PPE is part of Premium, along with the rest of H & S.

How does it work?

Instead of typing PPE into every job, you set it per kind of work. Each kind of work has its safety documents (a risk assessment, COSHH assessments, a safe system of work) and the PPE your crew will see.

When you plan a job, you choose its kind of work. The crew then see that kind's PPE and documents on the job in the TurfWise mobile app.

PPE guidance doesn't stop a job starting

The PPE shown on a job is guidance for the crew. It doesn't block anyone from starting the job, so it's worth making sure the list is right.

Where do I set what PPE a job needs?

Click H & S, then Assessments, then PPE. The page asks: what should the crew wear for each kind of work?

Three figures at the top count your kinds of work:

  • Set up — linked to safety documents
  • PPE only — PPE set, but no risk assessment linked yet
  • Not set up — staff see "PPE not specified", never "none needed"

Below is a list with the columns Kind of work, Safety documents, PPE staff see and Status. Kinds are grouped, and you can fold a group open or shut.

Older PPE profiles

If you used the old PPE profiles, a banner says how many need a home. Open a kind of work and use Copy from an older PPE profile so its PPE carries across. Nothing is removed.

How do I set up a kind of work?

Click a kind of work in the list to open it.

1

Link its safety documents

Under Safety documents, use Link a risk assessment, Link a COSHH assessment or Link a safe system of work. Check the assessment itself first. The PPE it lists is what feeds the next step.

2

Check the PPE staff will see

PPE staff will see shows what the documents require, under From the documents, plus anything extra you add.

3

Add anything extra

Under Extra PPE for this kind of work, type an item such as "Ear defenders" and click Add. Remove one with the cross beside it.

4

Save

Click Save PPE. You'll see Saved when it's done.

The same page has a Training card with a link to Manage in Training requirements, because training rules can match a kind of work too.

What does each status mean?

In the list, the PPE staff see column shows:

  • the PPE items, if PPE is set
  • None needed, if you've confirmed nothing is required
  • Not specified, if nobody has set it yet

"Not specified" is not the same as "none needed". Until a kind of work is set up, the crew aren't told it's safe to go without PPE.

When you plan a job in the Planner, choose the matching option in Kind of work. If you don't, staff see no risk assessment or PPE for that job.

Save time with task templates

You can set the kind of work on a task template too, in Settings > Planner & machinery > Task templates. Any job you start from that template picks it up automatically, so you set it once for every greens mow, not every time.

What does the crew see?

On each job in the TurfWise mobile app, and in Your job today on My safety, the crew see the PPE for the job's kind of work:

  • the list of items, if PPE is set
  • that no PPE is needed, if you've confirmed that
  • that PPE isn't specified, if the job has no kind of work or it isn't set up

Risk assessments and COSHH assessments also list PPE. See Risk assessments and COSHH.
